MAP Participants Achieve Success

AAM would like to congratulate the museums that have successfully completed one of the Museum Assessment Program's (MAP) four assessments since the beginning of the year. These institutions dedicated phenomenal energy and resources to improving their operations, becoming more sustainable and better able to serve their communities. Through a rigorous process of self-study and peer review, the museums took time for introspective examination and welcomed external peer reviewers to provide fresh perspective.

"The process of self-reflection and peer review fostered by the Museum Assessment Program improves museums on every level," says AAM President and CEO Ford Bell. "Through MAP, museums are positioned to better serve their communities, reporting clearer focus on mission, an energized staff and board and greater credibility with stakeholders."

The museums listed below participated in one of MAP's four assessment types. Collections Management Assessment explores how a museum cares for its collection in the context of its overall operation. Governance Assessment leads a museum's governing authority in examining its structure, roles and responsibilities. Institutional Assessment reviews an institution's entire operation, from mission to marketing to financial stability. Lastly, Public Dimension Assessment determines how a museum's community perceives, experiences and is involved with the institution. Visit the MAP homepage for more information, or contact map@aam-us.org or 202-289-9118. AAM's Museum Assessment Program is supported through a cooperative agreement with the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
