2007 ICOM-US Board Class Elected

The vice-chair of the ICOM-US Board, Nina Archabal, has marked the ballot and officially elected the 2007–2010 class. The board sets policy for ICOM-US, the U.S. National Committee of the International Council of Museums (ICOM). Board members are dedicated volunteers who serve ICOM, its American membership and the American museum field as a whole.

In the summer of 2006, ICOM members in the U.S. were asked to submit recommendations for the 2007–2010 board class. A slate was selected by the ICOM-US Nominating Committee and announced in the January issue of Aviso, when members were given the opportunity to submit additional names via petition. No petitions were received.

The vice-chair then officially elected the following individuals in March:

  • Lonnie Bunch, founding director, National Museum of African American History and Culture, Smithsonian Institution, Washington, D.C.
  • Gary Edson, executive director, Museum of Texas Tech University, and director, Texas Tech Museum Science Program, Lubbock
  • Karen Franklin, director of family research, Leo Baeck Institute, New York
  • Ron Kagan, chief executive officer, Detroit Zoological Society
  • Diana Pardue, chief curator, Statue of Liberty National Monument and Ellis Island, National Park Service, New York

The newly elected board members' terms commence at the conclusion of the AAM Annual Meeting in Chicago this May and run through the end of the 2010 annual meeting.

Suggestions are now being sought for the 2008–2011 ICOM-US Board Class. Potential candidates should be ICOM-US individual members with experience in governance, leadership and international projects and/or policy. They should possess the ability and resources to participate in two meetings a year and serve on a committee. Due by July 27, nomination forms can be obtained by visiting the ICOM-US section of the AAM website or contacting the ICOM-US office at 202-289-9115, fax 202-289-6578 or aam-icom@aam-us.org.
