ICOM-US Seeks Suggestions for 2008

Now that this year's annual meeting has ended, it is time to look forward. You can help strengthen upcoming ICOM-US initiatives by sharing suggestions for the 2008–2011 ICOM-US Board class and the 2008 International Service Citation, as well as for sessions with international themes for the 2008 AAM Annual Meeting in Denver.

» Board Nominations
The ICOM-US Board sets policy for the U.S. National Committee of the International Council of Museums (ICOM). Board members are dedicated volunteers who serve ICOM, its American membership and the nation's museum field as a whole. Candidates for the 2008–2011 class should be ICOM-US individual members with experience in governance, leadership and international project management, and who possess the resources to participate in two meetings annually. Nomination forms are due by July 27 and can be obtained on the AAM website.

» International Service Citation
The ICOM-US International Service Citation is presented at the annual meeting in years when a museum professional or organization is nominated for promoting international relations through museum work and significantly impacting the field. Nomination forms for the 2008 award are available on the AAM website and must be postmarked by Aug. 15.

» 2008 Annual Meeting Sessions
For the 2008 meeting in Denver, with its theme of "Leadership: An Open Mic for New Ideas," ICOM-US is seeking proposals for sessions that demonstrate how working across cultures and borders makes museums leaders in their communities. By submitting your proposal through ICOM-US, you have the opportunity for early feedback from the 2008 program chairs as well as from the ICOM-US staff. If your proposal is selected for sponsorship, ICOM-US will promote it during the SPC sponsorship meeting and to the National Program Committee.

Those interested in ICOM-US session sponsorship can find proposal forms and guidelines on the AAM website. Submit a draft session proposal by July 9 to ICOM-US at 1575 Eye St. NW, Suite 400, Washington, DC 20005 or aam-icom@aam-us.org. Proposals without sponsorship are due Aug. 31.
