Facilities/Site and Operations
This category is for museums with documented and significant changes to facility, site, and/or operational practices that demonstrate an innovative approach to achieving environmental sustainability goals. It may include capital improvements (e.g. new construction, renovation, lighting upgrades, renewable energy, etc.) to the facility or site or it could be an operational improvement (e.g. waste stream management, procurement initiatives) that reduce resource use and negative environmental impacts.
This category is for exhibition design that documents and demonstrates an innovative approach to achieving environmental sustainability goals. The entry may include materials selection and other design strategies for reducing resource use and negative environmental impacts through recycling/reuse, energy efficiency, etc. Reviewers will also consider the degree to which these strategies are made transparent and communicated to visitors.
This category is for stand-alone programs that present new and innovative approaches to engaging the public regarding the critical importance of environmental sustainability and conveys actionable green steps that everyone can take. Programs may include off-site community-based initiatives or specific programs within the museum for on-site audiences.
