August District Work Period Now Underway
Members of Congress will be meeting with constituents and touring local sites during the month of August, so now is a great time to get in touch with them!
Clearly, there is a lot on Congress’ plate: funding decisions, health care reform, and many other big-ticket economic issues. When members of Congress return to Washington, D.C., on Sept. 8, there will be just a few weeks left to pass IMLS reauthorization by its scheduled Sept. 30 deadline to be reauthorized.
Over the next few weeks, you can:
- Invite legislators and district staff to visit your museum.
- Request a meeting with your Representative and Senators and their local staff. Find detailed contact information for your legislators—including the contact and location information for district offices throughout your state and congressional district.
- Be where your legislators are. Check your legislators’ websites or call their offices to find out what type of activities are going on this month that you can attend—these may include Open Office Hours, coffee hours at the legislator’s office, or grant workshops that are open to the public and constituents like you. Use our legislator search page to get the website and contact information for your legislators.
- Weigh-in on current issues. Your legislators may not realize how many of the issues they are currently considering affect your museum.
