Advocacy Alert: May 1

Record Support in Congress for Museum Funding

Museum champions in Congress are once again leading the effort to support funding for the Office of Museum Services (OMS) at the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). In recent weeks, a record 95 Representatives and 24 Senators signed letters in support of robust funding for OMS. These letters are used to determine which programs have support within Congress and are influential when annual spending bills are being written.

In addition to in-person requests at Museums Advocacy Day, this effort was made possible by the nearly 2,000 contacts that legislators received from their constituents, urging them to sign on. Thank you to everyone who took action!

“With record support in the House and Senate for Office of Museum Services funding, museum advocates are building momentum in Congress,” said Alliance President Ford W. Bell. “These legislators have stepped up publicly to support our cause, so it is absolutely critical that we let them know we’re watching and we’re grateful.”
