Advocacy Alert: May 18

Senate Office of Museum Services Funding Letter Deadline Extended to May 22

Last night, U.S. Senators were granted a little bit more time to consider signing an appropriations letter in support of the Office of Museum Services (OMS) at the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). This letter is a key measure of support, and is legislators’ best annual opportunity to weigh in on behalf of the program.

The letter already has strong support—signatures from a bipartisan group of 30 Senators—but this year’s effort is especially important, with the agency targeted for elimination by the president’s proposed budget outline. Museum advocates can make a big difference for the cause with one final push!

Here’s how you can help today:

  1. Use the Alliance’s tools to look up your Senators,
  2. Check the list below to see if your Senators have agreed to sign on to the letter yet, and
  3. Ask your Senators to sign on by the final deadline of Monday, May 22, if they haven’t already.
If you joined us for Museums Advocacy Day, now is the time to follow-up directly with any staff you met whose offices are not listed below.
