Fred Dust – partner and practice lead at IDEO, a design and innovation consulting firm. Fred leads the environmental design group that helps clients with strategic and innovation goals around space and communities. The work puts multidisciplinary teams into the field to translate consumer insight into unique design experiences for a broad range of industries. He lectures widely on future experience trends.
Majora Carter– an environmental justice advocate from the South Bronx area of New York City focusing on environmental quality particularly in low-income communities. She began her career founding Sustainable South Bronx, where she spearheaded the development of one of the nation’s first environmental stewardship job training programs and other projects centered around fitness, food choice, and environmental quality.
Peter Sellars – visionary theater director and one of the most innovative forces in performing arts in the US. Through his groundbreaking interpretation of classic works whether it is Sophocles or Shakespeare he strikes a universal chord with audiences on contemporary social and political issues. He has created many new works with longtime collaborator John Adams, including Nixon in China. Sellars, a professor in the Department of World Arts and Cultures at UCLA was recently elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
Pico Iyer – an essayist and novelist of Indian descent. Considered a citizen of the world having traveled widely from North Korea to Easter Island and from Paraguay to Ethiopia while writing seven works of nonfiction. He often offers a fascinating “outsider” perspective of living within some society or way of life whether it is revolutionary Cuba, Buddhist Kyoto and even global disorientation. He is a regular essayist on world affairs for Time magazine, and on globalism for Harper’s magazine.
