What is AAM/ICOM?
|
ICOM has 111 National
Committees which are the fundamental units of ICOM and the principal
instruments for administration of membership and communication between
ICOM and its members. In the U.S., the National Committee is housed with
the American Association of Museums (AAM) forming AAM/ICOM. This symbiotic
relationship affords members access to a full scope of international information
and activities designed to broaden perspectives and strengthen skills
in the study and practice of museum work.
The AAM/ICOM Board represents the international interests of AAM and
of U.S. museums within the International Council of Museums (ICOM) and
represents ICOM's interests within the United States. The board sets
policy and provides leadership for AAM/ICOM in broad categories that
include
the mission, goals, priorities, and general resource allocation for AAM/ICOM
with the approval of the AAM Board. Suggestions
for nominations to the AAM/ICOM Board are due July 30, 2004.
Through the AAM/ICOM International Service Citation, AAM/ICOM strives
to honor those who have made a long-term commitment to advance the cause
of museum-based international relations. Nominations
are due January 15, 2005.
The AAM/ICOM Bylaws govern the internal affairs of the organization.
The Bylaws were most recently revised in Spring 2003.
