Membership Categories

AAM’s dues structure includes several categories of membership, each of which offers a different value to members. Before joining, please review the information below to ensure that you select the correct membership type. 

Please note that institutional membership categories includes different benefits than individual memberships. To learn more about the differences, visit the Member Benefits Page.

Institutional Membership Categories

Museum Membership-open to museums or organizations that operate museums.

Associate Membership-open to other museum-related nonprofit organizations, libraries, universities & government agencies.

Industry Partner Membership-open to all suppliers to the museum field.

Individual Membership Categories

Museum Staff-open to employees or staff of a museum.

Non Profit Organization Staff-open to individuals that work for a museum-related nonprofit organization, public library, museum library or university library, or an accredited degree-granting college or university.

Student-open to students from an accredited degree-granting college or university. Must submit valid, current ID from that institution.

Non-Paid Staff-open to individuals who volunteer on a regular, ongoing basis at a museum. You will be asked to indicate the museum where you volunteer.

Retired Museum Staff-open to individuals retired from a museum and not currently working in the field or retired museum trustees. You will be asked for your most recent museum affiliation.

Independent Professionals-strictly limited to individuals who provide goods and/or services to the museum field for profit.

Museum Trustee-open to individuals who currently serve on the board of a museum or museum-related nonprofit organization.
