El Museo Nacional de Etnografia y Folklore, La Paz, Bolivia
Gallery "Casa del Caballero Aguila", Puebla, Mexico
Museo de las Americas, Denver, Colorado

Three museums in Colorado, Bolivia and Mexico will create a youth-curated multi-media exhibition about stereotyping and prejudice experienced by indigenous and immigrant young people. Specifically, the exhibition will examine the collision of cultures as indigenous Aymara immigrants adolescents move into El Alto and La Paz; indigenous youths from 21 small villages move into Zacatlan; and Mexican youths settle in Denver. Each museum will enlist high school students from local majority and minority ethnic groups to engage in creative multimedia activities, which will be shared via technology and on-site visits.

The teenagers will explore the causes of prejudice, the ways in which knowledge affects prejudice, and the meaning of acceptance. Each group will then create an art piece expressing their feelings and experiences. The piece will travel between the three sites with participants responding and adding to the exhibition. The collaboration will culminate in a final joint exhibition displaying a triptych that will travel to each museum exploring commonalities and the differences of experiences among marginalized youth in the three cultures. Each participating center will hold a youth-driven public forum comparing the struggles faced by their marginalized youths.

The project goal is to create a replicable model for bringing younger audiences into museums through self-expression and technology. While discovering insights and making art is the focus, the final exhibition will serve as a tool for understanding and change in the wider community.
