Creative Coalitions Evening Event

Meet new people and greet old friends during this evening of networking with nine AAM Professional Networks: Museum Studies Network, CurCom, DivCom, Indigenous Peoples, Latino, Leadership and Management, LGBTQ Alliance, Environment & Climate Network, and SMAC (affiliation with any of these networks is not required to attend).

Ticket price: $40.00

Transportation will be provided from the Creative Coalitions Reception to the NAME Party at the Southern Food and Beverage Museum beginning at 6:30 PM.

LGBTQ Alliance Lunch

Please join the LGBTQ Alliance for our annual luncheon. Our speaker is Wayne Phillips, Curator of Costumes, Textiles, and Carnival Collections who will preview a new exhibit on LGBTQ Mardi Gras he is opening in June at the Louisiana State Museum. We will also review the past year’s work on behalf of our community and allies and highlight plans for the next year that focus on specific steps to advocate for LGBTQ welcoming practices in the broad museums community. How the Museum Field Can Be More Inclusive of the Transgender Community

As the transgender community is increasingly thrust into the spotlight, museums find themselves grappling with issues they may not have the experience, skills, or guidelines to address. In this panel, representatives of the AAM LGBTQ Alliance’s Task Force for Transgender Inclusion will discuss how you can become a stronger ally and help your institution implement Diversity, Equity, Accessibility, and Inclusion policies for staff, volunteers, and visitors. Review the task force’s new gender transition and allyship guides, and have your questions answered.

Welcoming Revisions: Updating Welcoming Guidelines for LGBTQ Audiences in 2019 and LGBTQ Alliance Roundtable Discussion

An Intergenerational Arts Program for the LGBTQIA+ Community

Stay Gold is an art-making program designed to foster connections across generations (ages thirteen to ninety-nine) within the LGBTQIA+ community. Discover how creating connections through collaboration can strengthen our understandings of one another while cultivating empathy and gratitude. This session will highlight not only how this program impacted participants and became a transformational experience for facilitators.

Beyond Stereotypes: AAM’s New Transgender Inclusion Toolkit LGBTQ Alliance Roundtable Discussion

This roundtable-style session, led by the LGBTQ Alliance’s Taskforce for Transgender Inclusion, will explore transgender inclusion in museums. Participants will learn more about the Task Force’s new Toolkit, discuss the Toolkit’s potential applications, and ask questions in an informal, brave space.

Meetups: Bourbon Pub and LGBTQ Walking Tour of French Quarter

We will be hosting two informal meetups:

Bourbon Pub

All are welcome to join us at the Bourbon Pub on Tuesday evening from 7-10pm. We will be wearing LGBTQ Alliance pins and our name tags. Come in and say hello! Bourbon Pub is at 801 Bourbon Street.

LGBTQ Walking Tour of French Quarter

On Wednesday afternoon from 1:30-3:30 pm, Frank Perez of the Louisiana Gay and Lesbian Archive will be leading a walking tour of the French Quarter specifically focusing on places, events, and people who have had an impact on the LGBTQ community. We will meet outside the JW Marriott. Requested donation is $20 and 100% of the donation goes to the Archive.
