Partnering for Excellence: A Primer on Engaging and Working With Independent Museum Professionals
Presenters:
Aria Camaione-Lind, Principal + Chief Executive Officer, Aria Strategies LLC
Brian Lee Whisenhunt, Executive Director, The Rockwell Museum
Description:
Museums and cultural organizations are in the unique position of employing content experts, design professionals, community engagement specialists, authorities on interpretation and preservation, and myriad other professionalized staff. Yet…sometimes organizations need to pull in outside expertise to truly meet their Mission and Vision, and to leverage their internal resources. Independent Museum Professionals are an invaluable resource, but it can be intimidating to make contact, scope a project and negotiate contracts with them. This session will address the ways in which organizations can prepare for engaging IMPs, and successfully partner on projects with them.
Podcasting for Cultural Organizations: A Crash Course
Presenters:
Laura Free, Host, Amended
Reva Goldberg, Producer, Amended
Description:
Are you curious about engaging your audience through audio storytelling? Is your museum interested in podcasting, but you’re not sure where to start? Join the creative team behind Amended–a six-part documentary series about the diversity and complexity of the quest for women’s full equality in the United States–to learn about the process of developing, launching, and distributing a podcast. Using Amended as an example, this session will walk participants through the creative and practical considerations that go into podcasting. Presenters include Dr. Laura Free, host and writer; Reva Goldberg, producer, editor, and co-writer, and Scarlett Rebman, project director, Humanities New York.
The National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame Education Experience: a mid-pandemic museum transformation
Presenters:
Vicki Reisman, Curator, National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame
Maureen Mahoney, Development and Membership Officer, National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame
Description:
In 2018, the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame set an ambitious goal to transform its Hall of Fame into a one-of-a-kind cinematic experience – in two years’ time. Led by Museum President John Hendrickson, the museum staff hit the ground running to create a new immersive Hall of Fame experience, complete with a 16-minute signature film, digital Hall of Fame plaque interactive stations, a renovated Race Day Gallery, and other major improvements to its facility and gallery spaces. Learn more about how the renovation team worked together to achieve this goal and open to the public in time for Derby Day 2020, despite the unexpected challenges of the pandemic.
Each Partnership Forum will be from 10 AM – 4 PM. Registration is $30 for MANY members and $25 for Non-members; includes museum admission and lunch.
Partnership Forums are sponsored by the New York State Council on the Arts, Humanities New York, Aria Strategies, Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor, NYS Canal Corporation, and the New York Council of Nonprofits.
