Many museums find it useful to use development/membership strategies to help achieve long-range goals and secure financial well-being. Professional members can join the Alliance’s Development and Membership Professional Network, which advances best practices in development and membership for all types of museums, gardens, historic homes, zoos, and aquariums.

This section has resources on assessing readiness; case statements (including economic impact); development program management; fundraising software; development planning; and evaluation of fundraising efforts; and trends in philanthropy.

Fundraising Methods and Sources

This section has resources on fundraising methods and sources, corporate sponsorship, and in-kind goods and services.

Earned Income

This section has information about the revenue generated when someone purchases a product or service from the museum. This includes revenue from facility use, food service, licensing, museum store, and travel programs.
