U.S. Department of Homeland Security

The Security Professional Network is pleased to partner with Caleb Quezada of the Commercial Facilities Section of Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Security Agency of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Caleb and the DHS express their concern for cultural property in their message below:

“The Department of Homeland Security recognizes the importance of our nation’s cultural heritage, as well as the institutions, facilities, and people who help protect it. As the DHS agency for nationwide risk management and infrastructure protection, the Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) collaborates with private and public sector partners to develop resources that support risk mitigation across the commercial facilities sector. We are pleased to offer these tools to our cultural properties partners at no cost. For more information on how CISA can assist with your security needs, please contact the CISA Commercial Facilities Section at CFSTeam@cisa.dhs.gov.”

DHS has developed the following relevant resources, which we are pleased to share with you:

  • Vulnerability Assessments for Museums
Learn how your museum can increase its security and resilience through an Assist Visit and Infrastructure Survey Tool offered by the Protective Security Advisors (PSAs) Program. These free tools are designed to identify vulnerabilities (digital and physical, man-made, technological, and natural) and enhance coordination, training and education to manage risk. The voluntary and nonregulatory assessments are the foundation of a national plan to protect the nation’s infrastructure. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) operates the PSA Program. For more information, contact CIOCC.Physical@cisa.dhs.gov.
  • PSA (Protective Security Advisors) Program Fact Sheet
PSAs are trained critical infrastructure protection and vulnerability mitigation subject matter experts who facilitate local field activities in coordination with other Department of Homeland Security offices. They also advise and assist state, local, and private sector officials and critical infrastructure facility owners and operators.
  • Security of Soft Targets and Crowded Places Resource Guide
Soft targets and crowded places are increasingly appealing to terrorists and other extremist actors because of their relative accessibility and the large number of potential targets. This challenge is complicated by the prevalent use of simple tactics and less sophisticated attacks.
  • Commercial Facilities Sector Resources
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) provides an array of cross-sector and sector-specific training programs and resources that are available to public and private sector partners.
  • DHS Active Shooter Preparedness Program Fact Sheet
Active shooter incidents are often unpredictable and evolve quickly. In the midst of the chaos, anyone can play an integral role in mitigating the impacts of an active shooter incident. DHS aims to enhance preparedness through a “whole community” approach by providing products, tools, and resources to help you prepare for and respond to an active shooter incident. To access the most applicable information, please select one of the provided categories.

The Security Network plans to continue its partnership with U.S. Department of Homeland Security as well as the Cultural Properties Committee of ASIS International. Updates will be posted as they are available.
