How clear is your record keeping? Your filing system? How will you set up your successors for data-keeping success? The Collections Stewardship Professional Network is pleased to offer this listening session with The Conservation Center for Art & Historic Artifacts (CCAHA) and Lyrasis and invite you to share your strategies, ideas, and questions about succession planning in the collections field. Through a project funded by the Institute for Museum and Library Services, the CCAHA and Lyrasis are gathering data to develop professional development resources to support succession planning for collections stewardship staff and volunteers. To gather input about experiences with succession planning across our professional community, CCAHA, and Lyrasis are facilitating this session. Tell us about succession planning strategies that have—and have not—achieved positive results. The session will probe issues related to organizational structure, documentation, and other related procedures for retaining and transferring knowledge, considerations for organizational leadership, and other key considerations for succession planning. Michelle Eisenberg (CCAHA) and Tom Clareson (Lyrasis) will facilitate. CCAHA and Lyrasis will gather practical suggestions for strategies and training efforts that would be particularly helpful to small and medium-sized institutions in this regard. The project will also culminate with educational programs presenting “best practice” strategies to prepare for staffing and volunteer transitions in collections care.
