Statement
The American Alliance of Museums (AAM) takes seriously issues surrounding the question of Nazi-Era looted art and is committed to ensuring museums act ethically and in accordance with standards. With respect to the Fred R. Jones Museum and Ms. Meyer, the long-standing Accreditation Procedures of the AAM’s Accreditation Commission are very clear. The AAM will not review an allegation of unprofessional practices if there are legal proceedings relative to the complained conduct ongoing with respect to the museum in question. To do otherwise would potentially involve the AAM in ongoing litigation and, even more importantly, require the AAM to make decisions about a matter that is now within the purview of the courts. Out of respect for the judicial process, until that litigation is concluded, the AAM cannot and should not review the matter.
