Project management in museums is often misunderstood as task tracking or administrative oversight, when in reality it is a critical discipline for aligning strategy, people, and resources to deliver meaningful value. From Fragmentation to Alignment: Project Management in Museums draws from the author’s forthcoming book, which explores the conditions of museum project work, the project life cycle, and cross-project patterns that inform institutional alignment. The session also incorporates insights from a cross-institutional survey on digital tools, communication, and collaboration that informed and sharpened the book’s framework, highlighting recurring challenges that shape how projects unfold across teams and departments.

Participants will be invited to consider how projects function within a broader museum system, how understanding the project life cycle within their own institutions can reveal where friction, misalignment, and complexity emerge, and how project management, if considered as a strategic practice rather than an administrative approach, can help address these challenges.
