As part of the MESC Annual Institute, join Paula Santos, creator and host of Cultura Conscious, for a lively discussion on cultural hegemony in museums and arts organizations with featured guest, Elena Muslar, Assistant Director of Entertainment and Fine Arts Professions at Loyola Marymount University. During this inaugural live recording, Paula and Elena will break down the buzz versus the actual work of social justice work in arts and cultural organizations and how that manifests from our individual selves to the field at large.
This One Good Thing features Cultura Conscious, a monthly podcast featuring Paula Santos in conversation with museum and cultural workers, educators, artists, and activists about how they work with their communities and the public at large. Paula is particularly interested in how the work we do in museums, non-profits, or other cultural organizations intersects and is informed by larger questions of race and inequity in society.
The live broadcast is generously hosted by the 2018 Museum Educators of Southern California (MESC) Annual Institute, “Not There Yet: Race, Ethnicity, and Cultural Hegemony in Museum Education.” The half-day program will examine one of the major questions that museums grapple with today: How do we design welcoming and engaging learning experiences that honor the histories and lives of our diverse communities? The annual institute includes panel discussions, maker stations, breakout sessions, and networking opportunities. For more information and to purchase a ticket to the event, click here.
