Expansion and Renovation
The Alliance has compiled this set of expansion and renovation resources from amongst its own offerings as well as those throughout the nonprofit and museum sector.
This Museum magazine article explores capital construction projects in light of a decrease in funding, staff layoffs, shrinking endowments, and a decrease in charitable giving. The article provides considerations and sources for funding and makes the claim that successful expansion projects share these traits: strong strategic planning, strong board leadership, focus on collaborations and partnerships, diverse and flexible funding, and an understanding of the project’s economic impact.
The Northeast Document Conservation Center (NEDCC) provides a technical leaflet with tips for protecting collections during renovations. It alerts institutions to common sources of construction-related damage and provides some solutions for foreseeable problems. The leaflet includes a checklist of major recommendations and a short bibliography.
