The Alliance provides a handout from its 2013 annual meeting, which provides information about balance sheet elements, gauging a museum’s financial health and formatting statements for clarity. The resource offers insight on income statements, net and fixed assets and calculation of ratios.
Blue Avocado shares an accounting procedures manual template (Word, 20 pages) that offers policy and procedures for a number of accounting activities, including: chart of accounts and general ledger; cash disbursements and expense allocations; credit card policy and charges; accruals; petty cash; payroll processing; financial reports; and end-of-month and fiscal year end close. It also shares division of responsibilities within the organization.
The Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) is the designated organization in the private sector for establishing standards of financial accounting and reporting. Its standards govern the preparation of financial reports for nonprofit and for-profit corporations.
Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) establishes standards of financial accounting and reporting for state and local governmental entities.
