The Urban Institute has created a site where nonprofits can fill out the 990 and file it electronically with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). They also provide free technical support.

Stay Exempt: Tax Basics for 501(c)(3)s

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) offers “Stay Exempt: Tax Basics for 501(c)(3)s”. The free online workshop includes interactive training modules on Form 990, employment issues, and unrelated business income. It covers tax compliance issues faced by small and mid-sized tax-exempt organizations and provides links to the IRS forms and publications discussed.
