Designing a Museum Volunteer Program Toolkit

Whether you want to start a new museum volunteer program or revitalize an existing one, this toolkit developed by AAM will guide you toward the resources and framework you need to be successful and sustainable. Learn about the key components in a museum volunteer program framework; why a museum needs volunteers, and the keys to structuring, developing, and supporting the museum volunteer program.

Maximizing Mission with Collections Volunteers

The Alliance provides a handout from its 2013 annual meeting, which provides tips for recruiting skilled volunteers, training staff and volunteers to work collaboratively and managing volunteer projects, including sample projects. The resource provides practical ways to incorporate and manage volunteers and the successes and challenges of unpaid help. It also includes samples such as a volunteer education collection assistant job description, a volunteer interest form and an application form.
