Since 2020, the museum field has been more competitive and difficult than ever before for emerging museum professionals. Where do emerging museum professionals go from here with increasing numbers of layoffs, furloughs, virtual/in-person hybrid workspaces and internships, and social justice? What are museums looking for in a prospective employee during and post-pandemic?
This session will be a round table of museum leaders to share their insights, guidance, and answer questions on the steps to thrive in the field. This webinar aims to provide attendees the opportunity to gain insight on how various museum leaders are currently addressing employment and future job at this time. While this session will encompass hiring information important to museum professionals of all levels, it seeks to provide tools for emerging museum professionals to gain a position within a museum. This information will be broad enough to be used at any point in time however special consideration will be addressed concerning the issues surrounding the Covid-19 pandemic. Our speakers will use this round table discussion to address what they look for in a potential hire, what an emerging museum professional can do to stand out, where to look for job and internship opportunities, and what things EMPs can do right now to better themselves in this current market.
Speakers: Rebekah Beaulieu, Ph.D., Director of the Florence Griswold Museum, Old Lyme, CT Karen Wise, Wise Strategic Advising, Santa Monica, CA Matt Davis, Georgia College, Milledgeville, GA
