Consultants and contractors are often engaged to help a client organization make changes in policy and/or practice. However, most organizations (and the people who govern and staff them) are inherently resistant to change. How can we, as independent agents of change, help to reduce client resistance and facilitate adaptation? This IMP webinar will explore three kinds of leverage that IMPs can employ to assist clients as they move forward. One point of leverage lies within the governing body of the institution. A second point of leverage is recognizing professional standards. And a third employs conversation and training to prepare and mobilize staff and volunteers. The webinar will feature three panelists, each of whom will address the challenges of overcoming resistance and promoting needed changes in client organizations.
Maureen Robinson, who specializes in governance, will present on leveraging boards; Erin Richardson, a consultant on collections management, will discuss ways to leverage professional standards; and Braden Paynter, an expert in dialog and community engagement, will speak about ways to motivate staff and volunteers. Avi Decter, Managing Partner of History Now and co-editor of Change Is Required: Preparing for the Post-Pandemic Museum, will moderate the webinar.
