ARLINGTON, VA–The American Alliance of Museums (AAM) announced today that two of its staff members and five other emerging museum professionals will take part in the American Express Leadership Academy, a week-long program created by American Express in partnership with the Center for Creative Leadership (CCL). The nation-wide program develops the country’s finest emerging nonprofit and social purpose leaders. The museum leaders will participate in the academy session in New York City, November 14-18, 2016.
AAM’s participants will be Andrea Streat, director of meetings & events, and Megan Lantz, senior manager of global partnerships. Others from the museum field, nominated by AAM, include:
- Raquel Aguiñaga-Martinez, Visual Arts Associate Director/Registrar, National Museum of Mexican Art
- Omar Eaton-Martínez, Intern and Fellows Program Manager, National Museum of American History
- Margarita Sandino, Director of Education, Dixon Gallery and Gardens
- Cecile Shellman, Diversity Catalyst, Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh
- Chris Taylor, Chief Inclusion Officer, Minnesota Historical Society
During the program, participants will build the personal, business and leadership skills needed to effectively run a successful nonprofit organization. Class discussions are enhanced by bringing together established nonprofit leaders, CCL trainers, outside leaders and American Express’ most senior executives. Participants will set goals and action plans during the training and have access to follow-up support from CCL in the form of online networking tools, telephone coaching sessions, leadership goal checkpoints and access to a development fund for further opportunities.
“I am so pleased to have this opportunity to support Andrea, Megan and all our nominees in their professional growth,” said Laura Lott, Alliance president & CEO. “The Alliance strategic plan calls for us to empower the broad museum workforce, and develop the next generation of museum leadership. I am confident that we’ll all benefit from what they learn and bring back to share with us.”Skip over related stories to continue reading article
