How can digital solutions help museums survive the financial crisis precipitated by the COVID-19 pandemic? Which digital solutions can fuel lasting improvements in a museum’s mission delivery and financial success? Join Nik Honeysett, Director and CEO of the Balboa Park Online Collaborative, Elizabeth Merritt, AAM’s Vice President of Strategic Foresight, and Blackbaud for an exploration of best practices for the adoption of digital strategies, and how museums can assess which digital investments will be sustainable in the long run.
This webinar is hosted by Blackbaud, a generous supporter of the American Alliance of Museums’ TrendsWatch report.
Nik Honeysett is CEO of Balboa Park Online Collaborative, a San Diego-based, non-profit consultancy that provides technology support and development services, and business and digital strategy for the cultural sector. Previously, he was Head of Administration for the Getty Museum. He is a former board member of AAM and MCN, and current board member of Guru, a mobile experience startup and the Institute for Learning Innovation. He is a frequent speaker on a range of technical, business and strategy opportunities and challenges facing the cultural sector.
Elizabeth Merritt is AAM’s Vice President for Strategic Foresight and Founding Director of the Center for the Future of Museums–a think-tank and research & development lab for the museum field. She studied ecology and evolution as an undergraduate at Yale and received her masters in cell and molecular biology from Duke University. Her museum career has included working in a children’s museum, as well as natural history and history museums, and she is a graduate of the Getty Leadership Institute’s Museum Management Program. Prior to starting CFM, Elizabeth literally wrote the book on museum standards and best practices, as director of the Alliance’s accreditation and excellence programs. She notes this was perfect preparation for her current role as agent provocateur—challenging museums to question assumptions about traditional practice, and experiment with new ways of doing business. Elizabeth is the author of the Alliance’s annual TrendsWatch report and works with museums around the world to help them build a better tomorrow.
