Arlington, VA – The Association of Art Museum Curators (AAMC) has become a member of the Council of Affiliates of the American Alliance of Museums (AAM), the 27th organization to join the influential body of museum organizations.
AAMC joins the Council of Affiliates following approval July 22 of its application by the AAM Board of Directors.
“Our goals closely align with those of AAM and the other members of the Council of Affiliates, in particular, our two initiatives on advocacy and diversity, and we look forward to collaboratively achieving our aims,” noted Helen C. Evans, Board of Trustees President of the AAMC & AAMC Foundation, and Mary and Michael Jaharis Curator of Byzantine Art, The Metropolitan Museum of Art.
“We couldn’t be more pleased that the Association of Art Museum Curators will join AAM’s Council of Affiliates,” said Alliance President and CEO Laura Lott. “Partnering with organizations like AAMC is a key approach in our Strategic Plan. The role of curators in art museums is central to connecting the care and development of collections to the engagement and educational outreach that is so important to today’s museums.”
“AAMC encourages partnerships between organizations, as working together to share knowledge and experiences encourages dialogues that enable all of us to better serve the museum community,” said Judith Pineiro, Executive Director, of AAMC & AAMC Foundation, “I am proud to have united our organization with the AAM and its Council of Affiliates, and am confident together we will accomplish a great deal on behalf of our constituencies.”
The Council of Affiliates is comprised of 27 national museum service organizations representing museums of all types, working to inform and advise AAM on policy and issues that may have an impact in the museum field. Find a complete list of AAM Affiliates on AAM’s website.
