This webinar will look at the basics of the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA), with an emphasis on how smaller museums and institutions can implement this federal law. Consultation with tribal nations, important definitions under the law and what museums need to have completed to be in compliance under the law will be focuses of this workshop.
Presenter
Eric Hemenway is an Anishnaabe from Cross Village, MI. He has worked in a tribal archives for 16 years and has extensive experience under NAGPRA. This experience includes working on over 30 successful repatriation claims, co-authoring NAGPRA grants, book chapters, writing a repatriation manual and serving on the National NAGPRA Review Committee. He also teaches NAGPRA workshops for the National Preservation Institute.
