The Making Music Studio at the Children’s Creativity Museum (CCM) incorporates exhibit experiences ranging from early childhood play, hands-on “making,” and digital media production. Most importantly, the exhibition was designed to be a platform where culturally-authentic musical traditions and performing arts could be layered with new prompts, visual and audio supplements, people-facilitated experiences, outreach and outdoor festivals, and contributions from community artists and partners. In partnership with advisors and partners from the local Filipino American community and an evaluation from the Research Group at the Lawrence Hall of Sciences, the CCM staff built a foundation for more intentional, authentic and equitable community engagement. In this webinar, staff and evaluators share the hard lessons and fulfilling rewards that come from equity work and what it may look like for an exhibition development process. This project was made possible in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services, Museums for All grant number MA-10-18-0016-18.
